Primary Steam Reforming Catalyst Z428Q/Z429Q
SYAMCAT Z428Q and Z429Q are nickel-based catalysts designed for use in primary steam reformers. Z428Q is intended for upper-tube loading, while Z429Q is intended for lower-tube loading and may be considered for full-tube loading subject to process conditions. The final catalyst combination should be selected according to the reformer configuration and specific operating requirements.

Z428Q was loaded in the upper section of the primary reformer tubes, while Z429Q was loaded in the lower section. The two catalysts were selected and loaded according to the unit’s feedstock and operating conditions.
Operating Performance
Despite fluctuations in feedstock conditions, the primary reformer maintained stable operation. At the time of review, Z428Q and Z429Q had operated stably for six years. Based on the project assessment at that time, the expected total service life was approximately eight years.

Application in Hydrogen Production
SYAMCAT Z428Q and Z429Q are primary steam reforming catalysts designed for different loading zones in reformer tubes. Z428Q is generally used in the upper section, while Z429Q is generally used in the lower section. Depending on the reformer design and operating requirements, either product may also be combined with other suitable reforming catalysts.
The catalyst combination and loading ratio are not fixed. They should be determined according to the specific reformer configuration and catalyst loading design.

Effective Heat Transfer
The catalyst structure is designed to support effective heat transfer through the catalyst bed during primary steam reforming.

The current TDS specifies crushing strength above 200 N/piece for Z428Q and above 300 N/piece for Z429Q.
